Nonantum from the Indian word for "rejoicing." is referred to by locals as "The Lake" which was filled in the 1930's. Many of my favorite shops and restaurants are located in Nonantum including DePequalie Sausage where they sell the best homemade Italian sausage and other Italian specialties. Many of the street in Nonantum are painted with the colors from the Italian flag, a statement of local pride. Certain plots still bear the grape vines from years past.
